“Snack”urday: Cherry Dump Cake

by Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts on July 31, 2009

Oh, I am beginning to love Saturday’s!

This week, I was thinking about the upcoming “Snack”urday, and I was trying to think of something quick, easy, that would be on hand, that the whole family would love.
Well, after narrowing it down.
I settled on my Cherry Dump Cake.
It doesn’t get any easier!
Cherry Dump Cake…Short Cut style!
——————————————-
  • 1 Can Cherry Pie Filling (you could really use any kind you like)
  • 1 Can Crushed Pineapple
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 4 Tbsp Butter or margarine
——————————————-
Preheat oven to 350 °
Dump…yes, I said dump Cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple into 13×9 baking dish.

Mix around a little with a spatula.
In a seperate bowl, crumble together butter and cakes mix until it gets crumbly.
Sprinkle over the Cherry mix.
Place in oven for 40 to 50 minutes.
Let cool and serve.
It is really good with vanilla ice cream, or whip cream!

I think it is even better after it has been in the fridge a couple days!

**I forgot to add that this can be made dairy free! Just use Butter flavored Crisco, or dairy free margarine.

My parent make a version of this, but it also has chopped pecans with the cake mix topping and the variety of fruits are up to you – they call it easy fruit pie. It’s always a hit, always easy and if you have it on hand – great with ice cream (vanilla).

An even quicker way is to instead of crumbling the butter and batter together to pour the batter over fruit, and slice butter laying it on top of batter. It comes out the same as the way you suggested.
