My Monitor Died Today RIP

Why is it that when we have to most on our plates, the unexpected strikes?   Is it God’s way of testing our strength?  I don’t know the answer.  I wish I did.  I am playing a balancing act with my life these days!  Blogging, Homeschooling, Parenting, Housekeeping, being a good wife, getting ready for Disney, My daughter’s birthday, and so much more! Then, out of the blue my computer monitor dies!

We are one of those families that only has one computer.  We all fight for screen time.  We huff and puff when someone else is on.  Our computer is well loved.  I just purchased this one in February of last year.  We bought the extended warranty from Staples.  LISTEN CLOSE.  You may find yourself in this position.  It has been 1 week short of 1 year since I purchased my computer.

I called Staples.  After waiting on hold for 45 minutes (NO EXAGGERATION)  I got a person.  A person who told me that they didn’t know what was wrong.  It sounded like my monitor died.  (NO REALLY??)  Unfortunately it had not been 1 year so I was still under the HP warranty.  I needed to call them.  1 hour wasted!

So, I called HP who told me that my warranty was no longer valid.  WHY?  They had the wrong dates in the system.  I would need to fax them a copy of my receipt and it would take 24 hours for them to update their system.  ~thud~   I very politely asked, “Realistically how long will it be until I get a new monitor?”   Her response was less than spectacular.  Well, I would have to call back in 24 hours.  Then it would take 2 business days for them to mail me a box to ship it in.  Then it would take 7-9 business days from the time that they receive it to decide what needed to be done.  Then it would take 3-5 business days to receive the new monitor, if they deemed that necessary.   We were looking at a couple weeks.

I bit the bullet.  I drove down to Staples and looked for a new monitor.  The cheapest available was $120!  More than I wanted to spend…which was $0!  I talked to the manager who told me that the return policy was 14 days, but because of my situation he would extend it to 30 days!  Thank goodness!  So, here is to hoping that I get my new monitor within the 30 days!

Staples so far has been more than helpful!  It is HP that doesn’t seem to have there stuff together.

Do you guys have any experience dealing with them??  Do you have your own Warranty horror stories?? I would love to hear!

What a pain! We had been a one computer family until Christmas when a friend of mine suggested a Netbook (I got an Asus at Best Buy for around $250). It’s the coolest (and most expensive) toy I’ve ever had! I hope your replacement monitor gets there soon!
