Disney Social Media Moms Day 3

by Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts on February 18, 2010

Sorry for the delay!  Ok….day 3.  Day 3 was a huge day!  It was my day!  All day Friday was conference.  My hubby was going to take all 3 kiddos on his own and venture into the park.  Well, Mother Nature had another plan.  Friday it rained….all day!  Did I mention it was cold?? Oh, just 35 degrees.  Yes, we are in Florida.  So, the hubby and the kiddos hung around the hotel all day.  We are talking the Polynesian here, so they were just fine.

I woke up early and snuck out again.  This time I headed over to the Contemporary Resort.    We had a delicious breakfast (very fancy), and then moved on into another conference room.  Again, the fact that I came without a laptop or a smart-phone seemed to stick out like a sore thumb.  Oh well, my pencil and paper worked just fine.

In the center of the table was a princess Build-A- Bear.  The first speaker was Maxine Clark, Founder of Build-A-Bear Workshop.  What an amazing lady!  She gave an amazing speech!  She was very inspirational!  When she finished she joined the crowd.  She stayed all day!  The Founder and CEO of Build A Bear, who I am sure had tons of work to do, stayed at the Social Media Moms conference all day.  That says volumes about her as a person.  She made everyone feel so special and no request went unconsidered.  She was phenomenal and I will never look at another Build A Bear the same way.

Next up was Marissa Jaret Winokur.  She won a Tony Award for her role in Hairspray, and was also on Dancing with The Stars!  She is so cute!  She talked about balance and how she accomplishes what she does in a day.  Also, how becoming a Mom changed her life.  She did an amazing job reaching out to the audience.  She also stayed and enjoyed lunch with us.

LUNCH!  OH my, it was spectacular.  It came out in courses.  First was Corn and Potato Chowder, followed by a salad, then baked Ziti, Chicken Parmesan, and Cheesecakes. There was plenty of time to network and mingle.  I got my picture taken with Maxine Clark, and Marissa Jarett Winokur!  They both made me feel tall!  They were only 4’11 ;) makes my 5’ seem big!

Back to the conference room for another speaker, Next up was Kathy Ireland!  She was very personable.  She was not at all what I had perceived her to be.  She talked about starting her own business, the ups and downs of life, and how she handles it all.  Did you know that her husband is an ER doctor and a commercial fisherman??  Bizarre combo!  She spoke to the audience by name.  You could tell that she enjoyed being with us!  Amazing women!

We had one more speaker.  It was a whole day people!  Last, but not least was Chris Brogan.  His message was not only entertaining but extremely informative.  He spoke about blogging in a way that I don’t think I have ever heard before.  Connections, trustworthy honest connections!  Meeting people and staying connected with your audience and your community.  Getting to know them, friending them, and growing your business through them.  While is seems like a common sense concept.  Not many think this way.   Thank goodness this is how I have tried to run my blog from the beginning.  You guys are my buds! J  You keep me going when I just want to throw some chicken nuggets in and call it a day.  So…Thanks!

Now, it was time for some fun!  Comedienne, Maryellen Hooper.  I had never heard of her before, but I don’t know why.  She was hilarious!  She made me laugh so hard it was ridiculous.  The cocktails were an added bonus. J

I ran back to the hotel to check on the Hubby and Kids.  By now it was 4:30 PM, and I knew they had been cooped up all day!  I was a little worried.  They were fine.  Everyone was rested and ready for dinner!

We boarded another bus and headed for Hollywood Studios.  This was the final dinner.  We grabbed a table and chowed down.  We met Goofy and Pluto, and got them to sign the kids books. While trying not to freeze, we walked down to Toy Story Mania.  We were some of the first to make it down there.  Woody and Buzz were waiting just for us.  There were no words for how exciting it was for the kids to spend at least 5 minutes alone with some of their favorite characters.  We got tons of pictures.  When the crowds started in we went across the street to jump on the ride.

The Toy Story Mania Ride is just like the Wii game, but better!  We had a blast!  Toy Story was by far my favorite part of Disney!  I Loved IT! We ran back to the bus to get warm and went straight back to the hotel to get some rest.

I understand cold at Disney World. My husband and I have been there done that, but we didn’t have the rain. So we refused to leave because we had paid extra for the Christmas party. We still believe how cold it was in Central Florida.
