I can hear you now. “Amanda, crab is expensive. How is that a deal?” Listen carefully! Not every deal is obvious. Since we have become more frugal, and to be completely honest, limited by allergies, we don’t eat out anymore. If we were to eat out we are looking at over $60 for a family of 5 if not more. Prices for convenient dining are ridiculous. This has been made more obvious by our recent trip.
Just because we don’t eat out does not mean we can’t enjoy restaurant quality food at home. I am not saying that this is every night cuisine, but an occasional treat. These crab cakes are to die for! Perfect for that special occasion (think anniversary, or birthday). Also, make them tiny for that special dinner party, an amazing appetizer!
The hubby and I like to have date nights in. Put the kids to bed, have a fancy dinner, watch a movie, and just unwind. It is nice to eat something that doesn’t require ketchup
.
So here is this fabulous recipe for crab cakes! They really are mouthwatering!
Crab Cakes
- 1 pound crab-meat, picked free of shells
- 1/3 cup of crushed Ritz crackers
- 3 green onions (green and white parts), finely chopped
- ½ cup finely chopped bell pepper
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- ½ lemon juiced
- ½ tsp. garlic salt
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- Flour for dusting
- ½ cup oil

Directions
In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients, except for the flour and oil.
Shape into patties and dust with flour.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When oil is hot, carefully place crab cakes, in batches, in pan and fry until browned, about 4-5 minutes.
Carefully flip crab cakes and fry on other side until golden brown, about 4 minutes.
Serve warm with lemon or preferred sauce.
**Dairy Free** Use a non-dairy cracker. You could use a saltine or oyster cracker instead of Ritz.
**Gluten Free** Use Gluten Free Pretzel crumbs instead of cracker crumbs, and rice flour for the dusting.
