How to Make Money Spring Cleaning! (Part 2)

by Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts on May 20, 2010

I’m Back with Part 2.  If you missed Part 1 you can read it now!

Craigslist

Yes, I know some of you are like I was about a year ago.  What is Craigslist? I don’t think they have one of those in my area?  Is it safe?

Rest assured that I have used Craigslist on several occasions.  I have had wonderful results, and typically get exactly what I am asking for an item.

Craigslist is broken down by state and then by major city. Once you choose a city, you will see the categories.  Everything from Household, Toys, to Farm/Outdoors.  It’s on Craigslist.

You will register to place your ad.  Then, when you do place an ad, your info is safe. It places a Craigslist reply email in your ad.  Then, responses are forwarded to your email account.  That way no 3rd party can get a hold on your email address.

Potential customers will email you their questions and contact info.  Then it is up to you to decide who to contact and sell to.

I have sold baby clothes, toys, and even purchased items from Craigslist.  I bought 4 dining room chairs for $25!  Craigslist is a super frugal tool!

The benefit for me is not having the big yard sale, but still selling my items.  I am still getting them out of my house, on my time frame, at my price!

Donate

Donation is a great way to not only clean out your clutter, but to help someone else.  There are tons of great non-profit organizations that will accept your donations.  Many of them will give you a receipt for tax purposes.  One good cause that goes unthought of too often is women’s shelters.  There are many women with children that for one reason or another find themselves in need of shelter.  These are great places to donate unwanted toys and children’s clothes! To find non-profits in your area just do a quick web search.

Or·gan·ize

v. or·gan·ized, or·gan·iz·ing, or·gan·iz·es

1. To put together into an orderly, functional, structured whole.

I have a love/hate relationship with the word Organize.  I want to be organized.  I am just having a difficult time with our relationship right now.  With three kids in the house, they just aren’t agreeing with the importance of this word.

I truly believe that organization is the key to knowing what you have and when it is time to get rid of it.  With craigslist as a tool you should never have a huge pile of stuff waiting for a new home again!

Plus, it is nice to have a few extra dollars in your hand for those items you need!

Hey Amanda,

I pop over from I Heart Publix occasionally and I had a couple questions about the storage/organizer pictured above. Is it from Ikea? How deep and tall are those shelves and how tall is the full unit? I need something like this but have a vaulted ceiling that slopes lower towards the walls. I also need it to hold big binders-thanks!
