Now, I am going to tell you a true story! Get your coffee!
I cut my sons hair his entire life (he is 5, almost 6). It took some time to learn, and yes, I only have 1 haircut I do well. However, my husband lets me cut his hair, so it must not be too bad. Anyway, In a moment of male bonding the boys went to the barber shop for the first time. I said that I wanted them to trim his neck and ears, but they could leave the top a little longer so he could spike it if he wanted to. Never, trust men to do what they are told.
They come home, keep in mind, he looks really cute, but his hair is the same length all over. I could’ve done that with the clippers. Just put a #2 guide on and buzzed away, but no. We paid to have someone else do it. How much??? Both of their hair cuts after tip was $35! WHAT! ~sigh~ I try to teach my family to be frugal. I really do. So this time when his hair grows out, I am taking the reigns back. I would much rather pocket $35 every 2 weeks than pay it for a haircut I could do at home!

I am with you. I have been cutting my husband’s hair since we got engaged and my DS his whole life (he’s only 2.5 though). I even gave my son a scissors cut last time!! I also cut my DD’s hair (she is 4)! I am not talented but I watch what my hair dresser does and I try to imitate it. In addition, when they are this young it gives me time to practice because they don’t know when I make a mistake. I also want to point out that this saves TIME too!! Sometimes that is even more valuable than money.
I have cut my daughters hair too for trims. It is time that me and the girls get a haircut. We are in need! I am holding out till it gets closer to my trip. I want to look pretty when I go to Minneapolis!
It is so nice to be able to cut their hair in front of there favorite cartoon and not worry about the “Is it done yet” syndrome.
Amen, I cut my husbands and our 4 boys (ages 20, 18, 18, and 9). Before that I cut my fathers and my two brothers….so I have been cutting hair for nearly 30 years, That is A LOT of money saved!!!! I also trim my own hair. Now I have a 3 yr. old girl, her hair has never been cut, It is to her bottom……will I pay or cut myself? I do not know…….
I have a 5 y/o and 2 y/o. I havent cut the 2 y/o hair yet. I just bought these kid’s clippers from Target for $19.99 shipped. They are 50% off. I think it will make cutting their hair a little easier! (The deal is only good for today!)
