Fall Garden Time

So, I am thinking it is time to get my Fall garden started.  It is hard to get ready for it, because here is FL it is still so hot!  We have had a nice breeze the past few days..(Thanks Earl)! :)

Where to start? I was so tickled with my Spring garden until the deer struck.  I am going to try to plant things that the deer won’t eat, but then again ….I don’t think they are that picky. I typically buy my seeds just at Lowes or Home Depot. If I do I am taking my 10% off coupon with me!  I may get fancy and order them from Burpee.  Who knows.

I try to get the kids involved in the garden.  It is a good way to teach them hands on how a garden grows, where food comes from and how seeds/plants work.  I really hope it is a lesson they take with them through life. :)   Homegrown food just tastes better.

So, what am I gonna plant?

This time around we are going to try our hand at…

  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Peas
  • Collard Greens (not for me!)
  • Herbs
  • Okra

So, this weekend we are going to get dirty and weed the garden.  Get a couple extra bags of dirt to make the garden nice and fresh.  Then, start our seeds in our little green house. :)

I will keep you posted the whole way.

Are you going to have a fall garden?  What are you growing this season?

  1. Do you have a resource that tells you what you can plant in fall in FL? I was looking last week, but didn’t find much. This is my first year gardening and my spring one didn’t do very well. I’d like to try again.

  2. Shanna,

I don’t have a resource. The local stores tend to carry only seeds that grow in the area. When you flip the packet it tells you when you should plant, and where. I usually just go with it. You can do an internet search for your area. I searched, “Florida Fall Gardens” see what pops up. You may be surprised. :)
