Homemade Christmas: Hand Soaps

026
I love making and receiving Homemade Christmas gifts.  They bring the meaning of the season forth more than store bought items!  Today, I am going to show you how to make some super cute hand soaps that anyone would love!

001

I started with a simple melt and pour soap base.  You can find this at any craft store or at Amazon.com.  I bought this at Michaels with one of their 40% off coupons that is always in the paper.

I already had lavender from a past project, and of course my loofahs that I grew in the garden.  You can read all about them here.  You could use oatmeal, other herbs, vanilla, really anything you want to mix into your soap is fine.

**Fun Idea for Kids** you could buy some of those small plastic toys from the dollar store and place them in the middle of the soaps for hand washing encouragement.   That is so much fun!

Anyway, I used an old muffin tin and placed loofah in each one.

I then followed the instructions on the package and melted my soap in the microwave.  I mixed in the lavender while it was hot so the soap would take on the fragrance.

I poured the melted soap over the loofahs and let cool in the freezer.

I popped them out and gave them a good thump and out they came.  You may want to grease your pan to make sure they come out without a problem.

You can then wrap these any way you want for presentation.  I just wrapped 3 of these up really quickly with a piece of ribbon for a gift basket.

There are many different recipes Shannon, you can even Google some! One of the easiest, and safest (my great-aunts begged for this) is the glycerin base, or the olive oil base “melt and pour” that you can find in many different craft stores. If you want to e-mail me, I can give you several different sites you can check out, or just have fun googleing!
