I am always looking for new twists on classic dishes. Here at A Few ShortCuts I like to feature delicious, easy, Family friendly recipes. I don’t want to be a short order cook and I know you don’t want to be either. I try to make all of my recipes something the entire family will enjoy digging into!
I knew I wanted to use my crockpot this week. I am getting used to living in a house with a basement. The downstairs is plum cold, while the upstairs gets hot enough for the ac while I am cooking. I just don’t get it, but the only way I know to avoid using the oven for dinner is busting out Hamilton (my crockpot).
We love BBQ at my house! This recipe makes some AMAZINGLY moist BBQ Chicken that is perfect for sandwiches, salads, or just by itself. I just wish crockpot food was more photogenic, because the picture does not do this recipe justice!

If I cut the recipe in half will the cooking time be the same?
Janet, It may be a little less like 30 minutes. I would keep an eye on it the first time around. I always make a full batch. You can freeze the leftovers for a quick meal another night.

I cook Pork Loin the same way then pull it to make sandwiches. It is awesome so I am sure it has to be the same with chicken. It is so easy and everyone will love it, guaranteed!

What about using frozen chicken?

I found your site yesterday (a link from Totally Target) and since I didn’t know what to make for dinner we had BBCola and it was a hit. DH liked it so much he wanted to finish off the chicken (there was more then a pound left)! I did use frozen chicken and cooked it on high for 4 hours but left the lid off the last hour as it was too thin for me and leaving the lid off allowed the sauce to thinken. Thanks for a wonderful new (and easy) recipe to add to our rotation!
Yay! So glad you liked it Kathie! It is a winner! Happy you found me…hope you stick around!

Can you use Pepsi?
Yes, you can use any regular soda. Just not diet. It is the sugar that helps tenderize and flavor the meat.

I tried this this past weekend and I LOVED it!! It will be a staple at our house now! I put 6 thawed chicken breast in and let them cook for about 3 hours. When they were done, I pulled them out and let them cool and added cornstarch to the sauce (I like it thick!) and I shredded the chicken and then put it back in the crockpot with another bottle of BBQ sauce (I wanted it smothered in it!) and I let it cook for another 5 hours. It was so amazing and the sauce was exactly like I wanted it! Thanks so much!!!
