My family has a large donation ready to go for tomorrow. I am going to take mine to the post office myself, cause my poor mailman walks door to door. I just don’t see him carrying this stuff. That is one thing I love about coupons. They help me give back to the community without taking funds out of my family’s budget!
Campbell Soup Company the the National Association of Letter Carries are teaming up tomorrow (5/14) for Stamp Out Hunger, an effort to collect as much food as possible for millions of Americans who are struggling to put food on their tables each day. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the country. Last year 1500 Post Office branches in the US collected 77.1 million pounds of donations! Wow!
The need for food assistance has never been greater. The number of Americans living in food insecure homes has topped 50 million since 2009. One in three people in America who is at hunger risk is a child (17.2 million).
So how can we help? Simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods (canned soup, canned veggies, pasta, rice, or cereal) next to (or in) your mailbox prior to the time your mail is normally delivered tomorrow (Saturday, May 14). You might want to write Stamp Out Hunger on the bag so that they know what it’s for. Your letter carrier will collect your donations as they deliver the mail and take them to your local food bank.
To make your donation even more valuable, you can still help! Head over to the Stamp Out Hunger Facebook page and pledge your support to donate food. Campbell’s will donate one pound of food for every person who pledges.
