Healthy Short Cuts: Beginnings, Gizmos, and More

Healthy Short Cuts

I am human…there I said it.  I am not a super mom. I don’t have a cape in my closet. I wake up every morning and stumble to the coffee pot, then flip open my computer. If I am lucky I have 30 minutes of uninterrupted work before the sounds of giggles, sesame street, and “Mom..What’s for breakfast?” take over my day.

I am the sole voice behind A Few Short Cuts.  All the deals are found and posted by me…7 days a week…365 days a year.   As A Few Short Cuts gets bigger…so does my rear end. ~giggle~  I sit on it and work several hours a day.  I know I have tried to stick to a work out routine in the past, but it just hasn’t stuck. I have a serious love for good food, so cutting calories is really hard. My solution. Work out more…a lot more. You know…in all that spare time I have.

I have actually been doing really great over the last week, and I have made it on the treadmill 6 days out of 7. Which is amazing, and I wanted to share some of my favorite gizmos I have found to make working out more fun and easier!

lg tone

Ok, I splurged on this LG Tone Bluetooth Headset $48.99 (was $69.99) I needed a headset for my iphone and I really hate running with the cord waving back a forth. I can’t tell you how much I love these! They have the controls right on the headset, so I don’t have to touch my phone again until I am done. Plus, I can use them for my phone while I drive! 2 Birds…one stone.

Then I downloaded these 2 apps. They are the 2 iphone apps that have powered me through my workouts this week.

amazon player

Amazon Cloud Player (Free)

Amazon cloud player allows me to play all of the music I have purchased from amazon without taking up memory on my phone. I can create playlists and play my music from any device with the cloud player on it. I love it!

healthy runningNike + Running (Free)

Nike Running App is my motivator! It keeps track of how far I have run. It uses GPS if you are an outside runner, but it also keeps track even on the treadmill. It helps me create goals, and tells me when I have had my fastest run, longest run etc.  It also allows me to share my runs on facebook and twitter.  While I was skeptical to post my runs to social media at first, you will be surprised how your friends and family cheering you on will keep you honest with your workouts.

The only catch is you have to hold the phone in your hand or somewhere on your body if you are running on the treadmill with this app. That leads me to my next must have.

armband

iPhone ArmBand $3.35. I actually just ordered this from amazon today! Amazon has the best prices on electronic accessories.  These arm bands can retail $20-$30 in store. I just ordered this one for $3.35 and free shipping. I am hoping it will be more comfortable than holding the phone while running, because I really love the Nike +Running app!

I have a few more tricks up my sleeve that I will be sharing while I learn. Keep your eyes out for more Healthy Short Cuts
