This is the kind of news I hate to give at Christmas, but everyone needs to be aware. Target just announced that it believes that there has been a national wide security breach that occurred Thanksgiving day through to December 15th. This includes Black Friday, which is one of the biggest shopping days of the year! Thieves are suspected to have stolen millions of credit cards through a method called “Track Data”.
“The type of data stolen — also known as “track data” — allows crooks to create counterfeit cards by encoding the information onto any card with a magnetic stripe. If the thieves also were able to intercept PIN data for debit transactions, they would theoretically be able to reproduce stolen debit cards and use them to withdraw cash from ATMs.” – Source
Keep in mind, This is only if you shopped inside the store. This breach does not affect you if you shopped online.
If you shopped at Target during this time, I would recommend that you call your credit/debit card company ASAP and see if there have been any issues with your card. For more information head on over to Krebs Security
Thanks I am That Lady
