I was recently awarded some Wyndham Rewards Points so that my family and I could stay at a Howard Johnson for a night. Of course, to tell you what we thought of our stay. We had already gotten tickets for a Tampa Bay Rays Baseball game, so it seemed like a perfect time to stay on the beach for a night at the Howard Johnson St Pete Beach.
It is located right on the Gulf of Mexico, so it was a no-brainer for us! We got a wonderful gulf view room. Keep in mind, this is an older hotel, so it isn’t as fancy as some. But for a family on a budget looking for a place to stay on the beach it worked just fine. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, 2 queen sized beds, tv, and balcony.
We spent most of our time on the beach itself. It was a little crowded, but HEY….it’s the beach! There are cabanas to rent, or pull up a spot in the sand. The Howard Johnson also had a pool, restaurant, and plenty of green space outside for the kids. It did get a little noisy outside at night by the pool I am guessing because the bar stayed open. I would bring some ear plugs. Other than that, the beds slept good, it was a clean room, and the kids loved the balcony.
The Howard Johnson St Pete Beach is also close to many amenities! There is a Publix right up the road which saved us a ton for breakfast and lunch. There is also a Chick-Fil-A that we discovered for dinner. St Pete Beach has a little something for everyone when it comes to entertainment, or you could be like us and just be beach bums for the day.
