I love going to Target or the local Home Goods store and just wondering around looking at pretty & stylish home decor. Sometimes I will snag something, but for the most part I hate to spend money on stuff like that. When you are on a budget, it just isn’t a priority. I found a tutorial for a mirror similar to something you would find in one of these stores. My mind was blown.
Are you sitting down?? This mirror cost me less than $5 to make! SERIOUSLY! You would never guess to look at it, but it is made from plastic spoons! I know….crazy isn’t it!
What you will need
- Plastic Spoons (a mirror this size took 112 to be exact)
- A round mirror. Check the dollar store, or local craft store.
- Foam board or cardboard
- Glue gun
- spray paint
- Ribbon or something to hang mirror with (won’t be seen)
First cut your foam board or cardboard into a circle. The size is really up to you, just keep in mind you are going to need to fit your mirror in the center with room to glue the petals (spoons) around it. My circle was about 18″ across.
Then start cutting spoons. The cheaper the better. I made the mistake of accidentally buying the “premium” plastic spoons. I now have the strongest hands on the planet. LOL You can save the handles for another project or just recycle them.
Trace the mirror onto your foam board as a guide for you to start hot glueing your spoon petals.
Start glueing around the center first, then stagger them as you go out. Cover the entire piece of foam board. You can see I had to dig for some extra spoons. Good thing it didn’t matter because they were getting painted anyway.
Once all the spoons are glued, spray paint the entire flower your desired color.
I also flipped it and made sure the underside of the spoons was painted as well. Just in case. Once dry. Hot glue the mirror to the center. On the back of your mirror hot glue a ribbon or something to hang your mirror with.
Hang on the wall and enjoy!
