Ok… in my house the dog doesn’t always get presents, but I figured if the kids wanted to make him something that was fine with me. So , the kids came up with this great idea to make the dog cookies. I modified their idea and said how about dog biscuits.
I have never made a dog treat in my life! I am a go to the store a buy a box type of gal. However, my kids love their Huckleberry. I have to admit his is a pretty special Beagle. He thinks he is one of the kids. So, we googled, we adjusted and we made our very own dog treats. Here is the recipe!
Homemade Dog Biscuits
- 3/4 cup beef or chicken broth (You can use water…but broth just sounded better)
- 1/3 cup bacon grease…you can use crisco
- 1/2 cup powdered milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg beaten
- 2 cups flour
- food color…optional
In a large bowl mix all ingredients until dough forms. You will have to knead the dough with your hands to get it to come together. IT will be a stiff dough.
Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into bone shapes, or any shape you choose.
Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Cool. They will dry out really hard!
How did they turn out? I would say ask the dog, but he is asleep after he gobbled up one of his new bones…so I guess that means that they were good!
