Looking for a new trendy piece of furniture?! Why not upcycle an old piece and learn how to paint it with a chevron design.
I bought this storage chest a while back off of craigslist. I only paid $30 for it. It had puppy chewed corners and was cedar lined laminate. I decided to paint it with a chevron design.
I got some FrogTape®! FrogTape® is the only painter’s tape treated with PaintBlock® Technology. PaintBlock is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed. I wanted to test how well it worked! I hate touching up paint lines.
I gave the chest a base coat of paint. It took a few coats because it was laminate.
Once dry, I taped off my design with the FrogTape®. I pressed down on the tape making sure it was in place well. I covered the other parts of the chest with tape and paper to prevent them from getting the second color of paint on them.
I then sprayed the other color of paint where I wanted the stripes on the chest. This always makes me nervous. I had my fingers crossed the tape would work well.
I let the spray paint dry for about 20 – 30 minutes. I carefully removed the tape while it was still a little tacky. Then allowed the chest to finish drying. Can you believe how straight and crisp these lines are?! I am in love with the FrogTape®! No touch ups were necessary!
What I was left with was this super cute chevron storage chest! I love it!
