We bought this dinner table set right before Gracie’s 2nd birthday. This table is just your standard pedestal table with 4 chairs and a leaf. Nothing really special about it but it was solid and it was ours.
This table has been with us for the majority of our marriage, the birth of 2 kids, and has seen every Thanksgiving, Birthday, Christmas, and weeknight dinner.
Over the years, and many moves, chairs have broken and been replaced with second hand chairs.
The top of the table was worn and stained.
The finish was chipping.
There was paint on the top from craft projects.
But the best treasures are underneath the table top where no one can see. My son used to hide under the table when he was 2 and draw pictures under there, with permanent marker of course. There are small finger prints of paint under there from little people who wiped their fingers when we were crafting. There are small teeth marks on the legs from our dog Huckleberry when he was a puppy (He is no longer with us).
This table has some serious sentimental value at this point, but it needed a little love to make it as beautiful to everyone as it is to us. We sat down to play a game together last night and I looked at this worn table. I see all of the memories and all of the new ones yet to come. When the kids went to bed I got busy giving it a little makeover.
I sanded the top of the table to knock off the chipping stain, and pulled out my Dixie Belle Paint. I have painted furniture many times, but ever since I tried Dixie Belle Paint I will never go back to any other kind. Dixie Belle is a Mineral Chalk Paint that has amazing coverage. Not just the coverage but this is a No VOC paint. I painted it right in the kitchen where it stood and didn’t have to worry about smell or ventilation. The other great thing is it dries FAST! This is not a sponsored post, I just really love this paint!
I painted the top of the table with Dixie Belle Chocolate, and the base with Dixie Belle Drop Cloth. Once it was completely dry I went over the entire table with Dixie Belle Gator Hide, (a poly-acrylic coat). I let it dry overnight. Once I got up this morning it was a BEAUTIFUL table once again!
The best part, I left the underside of the table untouched. So all of those little drawings, finger prints and chew marks are still there. This table has many many more years of memories ahead of it!
