Chocolate Italian Love Cake Recipe

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix made according to box
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 5.1 oz instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 8 oz Cool Whip or whipped topping


  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9×13 inch pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix together your cake mix according to the directions on the box. Pour batter into the 13x9 pan and spread evenly.
  • In another bowl, beat together the ricotta cheese, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Carefully pour the cheese mixture evenly over the top of the cake batter. Spread to cover the cake batter as best as you can.
  • Bake the cake at 350 degrees F for 50-55 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting.Frosting
  • Stir the pudding mix and milk together with a whisk until combined. It will be thick. Carefully, fold the Cool Whip into the pudding until combined.
  • Spread the pudding mixture over the top of the cooled cake.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.
