Homemade Crockpot Caramel Dip

crockpot caramel dip

I am all about short cuts…in case you couldn’t tell.  Recipes that are easy, and help me save money are the best.  This one, does both.

I love caramel sauce, for everything from apples, to ice cream.  It can be pricey at the store and a pain to make in the kitchen.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that you can make homemade caramel in one easy step…in your crockpot. It doesn’t get much easier than this folks.

Place a can of Sweetened Condensed Milk in your crockpot and cover it with water.  Cook it on high for 4 hours.  That is it!

Shut off the crockpot after 4 hours and allow the can to cool completely!

When you open the can you will  be met by this golden creamy delicious caramel sauce.  I used mine for some apples, and then put the rest in a container in the fridge.

The caramel dip at the store costs almost $4, while a can of Sweetened Condensed Milk costs $1.25.  So if you are saving money vs. buying the pre-made stuff at the store.   Plus, did I mention that this tastes WAY better?!

  1. If you can find Dulce De Leche in a can – it’s a wonderful caramel dip. It’s really thick and so delicious. It’s a little more expensive but so good.

  2. In college I worked at a chain restaurant that made a delicious Caramel Pie. This is basically how they made it (much bigger cans, though), dumped it into a graham cracker crust, then after it cooled (and firmed up) it was topped with whipped cream, pecans & chocolate chips. So yummy and popular. I never thought about making it in the crock pot but I sure will now! Thanks for this!
