Teal Pumpkin Project

FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project, which was started by Becky Basalone, a Tennessee mother whose son has experienced anaphylaxis from food allergies. In 2012, she painted a pumpkin teal, the color for food allergy awareness, and put it on her doorstep for Halloween.

Since then, tens of thousands of people have pledged to display teal-colored pumpkins outside their apartments or homes to signal they have nonfood treats on offer, such as small toys, stickers, and more. According to FARE, the hope is to get at least one teal pumpkin on every block in the United States this year.

What to offer?

While you are passing out candy this year. Think about grabbing a few non-food items to pass out too. All kids love getting….

These are great options if someone comes to your door that can’t eat what you are offering. The Teal Pumpkin Project also has a Free printable sign, stickers and more to show others know you have non-food options.

This October when you are stocking up on candy grab a few other small items and an extra pumpkin to paint teal. That Teal Pumpkin means an awful lot to the kids with food allergies this Halloween.
