Homemade Christmas: Homemade Hula Hoops
Ok..this had to be the most fun I have had with a craft project lately! The kids and I went to the Farmer’s Market last week. One of the vendors had Homemade Hula Hoops. My oldest is a Hula Hoop champ. She loves to Hula Hoop. Her hula hoop had broke a few months ago. I had been to every Walmart & Target around. I was told they where out of season. Really?! I didn’t know there was a Hula Hoop Season.
Anyway, The lady at the farmer’s market….She had Hula Hoops and was charging $25 each! Um…thanks, but no thanks. After I saw you could make your own I came home and consulted Google. Low and behold I found the directions and they were super easy!
The kids and I hit up Home Depot today for the supplies. Since I had so many requests for color I was out about $50….BUT….I have enough to make several more Hula Hoops for gifts! Plus, the PVC cutters are an investment because I will never need to buy another pair. Here is the cost breakdown.
- PVC Irrigation Tubing 100’ $9.95
- PVC Cutters $12.95
- Couplers (10 pack) $3.95
- Electrical tape colored rolls $3.95 each…ouch!
Check out our video below!
I figure I have enough stuff to make 10 kids hula hoops. For a little less than $5 each! That is a great unique and thoughtful gift. I would have never been able to find a camo hula hoop for my son, but I sure can make one! 🙂
I have more Homemade Christmas posts, and more to come!

Great video and a great idea for Christmas gifts. I love that they can be personalized for each kid!
This is a great idea and a great little video. You always have some great ideas.
How do you Hula Hoop? “I can’t”…..LOL…..Too cute! (:
Yes, She is my brutally honest child.
What an awesome idea!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. My son has been wanting one and well ummmm me too. A great way to exercise together and it not feel like exercise.
Hugs,

I never knew you could make them! Thanks 🙂
Wow what a great idea!!!
really clever! i would have never thought that irrigation tubing was that flexible. hmm i wonder if i could use a metal pipe cutter (since i already have one)…
Loved the video! I had no idea there was a hula hoop season, either! I got my daughter one at the Dollar Store, but that was a year or so ago and I have no idea what time of year it was. My husband and I couldn’t use it on us, and he thought it was because it needed more weight. So, he opened it up to put rice or something in it and we were surprised to find what had come inside of it – small rocks!
