Dan Santat (www.dantat.com) is the author and illustrator of the recent Caldecott winner, The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, and many other books. For Disney-Hyperion he illustrated Oh, No! and Oh, No! Not Again! by Mac Barnett, Always Lots of Heinies at the Zoo by Ayun Halliday, and Because I’m Your Dad by Ahmet Zappa. In celebration of the #EPLR series we made these We are Growing Pots to grow our own grass (or other plant) just like in the book!
You will need
- Small terra-cotta pot
- green acrylic paint
- googly eyes
- black sharpie
- potting soil
- chia seeds or other grass seeds
How to
- Have the kids paint their pots green.
- Once dry glue on the googley eyes, and use the marked to create the faces.
- Fill your little pot with dirt and plant the seeds.
- Water until the grass (or other plant grows.)

The Pigeon Needs a Bath is my favorite Mo Willems book. It is a great read aloud for the younger kids and you get to use a lot of expression in reading the book.

Favorite so far is The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!
My 7 year old reads the Pigeon books (Drives a Bus and Finds a Hot Dog) over and over again. Each time she reads she gets more and more loud and giggles! We love these books!
My Grandson loves the Elephant and Piggie books. His favorite is We are in a Book.
