DIY Wooden Dice
These DIY Wooden Dice are so simple, and so much fun. They would make an amazing gift not just for kids, but for a teacher! Plus you can really make them any size you want.
I know it is kinda early, but my resolution is to be more crafty. I see all of these things that I would love to have, and think that I could make that myself. My problem is, I never do. Or I get intimidated by the tools. No more intimidation.
I am the proud new owner of the Rockwell Tools Blade Runner X2! I feel all tough and like I can do anything. LOL I really can! This thing can cut wood, metal, and tile. It can Rip, scroll, crosscut. Pretty much, if there is a diy around my house, I can accomplish it. AND my favorite part. It’s portable! I don’t have to have a special set up just for it. I can carry this bad boy around.
DIY Wooden Dice
To make the dice, you will need…
- 1″x 1″x 48″ piece of Wood or whatever size you choose to make your dice. (This was only $0.96 at home depot)
- stain or paint
- Saw for cutting (I am using the Rockwell Blade Runner X2)
- Sandpaper
I set up my Rockwell Blade Runner x2 on the tile floor in the kitchen. I measured the exact width of the wood and set my guide to match. The piece of wood I bought actually measured 1.25 inch wide. Since I want it to be an exact cube I set my cut for 1.25 inches.
Then I let her rip. 😉 Once I had the dice cut and sanded them well. No rough edges. If you would like inset holes for the dots you can use a drill with a 1/4 drill bit and just drill enough for an indention. I did this and it made it super easy to paint the dots later.
Now I moved my project outside and stained my dice. You could paint them or leave them natural wood color. Totally up to you. I let mine dry for a few hours before bringing them in.
Once the stain is completely dry use a white paint to fill in the dots. If its easy for you, purchase a white paint marker. I was kind of wishing I had done that because I was making so many dice.
Once they are dry you are ready to rock and roll! My kids are already loving the big dice for games! I am thinking a family game night of Yahtzee is in order!
I can’t wait to make more projects with my Rockwell Blade Runner X2. I am easing myself into bigger projects, so keep your eyes out for more to come!
