Homemade Carpet Deodorizer

Freshen up your house in a snap with this simple Homemade Carpet Deodorizer Recipe! Great to keep on hand all of the time!

Kids and a dog do something to your carpet. No matter how much you love them and bathe them, they can dirty a carpet in record time. And as much as you would like to deny it….the dog can make the house smell like….well, dog. That is where this Homemade Carpet Deodorizer comes in handy.

I have a steam cleaner for the carpets, but I try not to drag it out all the time. I have bought those store bought carpet powders before, but I am not sure what is really in there. That is why I love this Homemade Carpet Deodorizer! I know exactly what I am using.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of corn meal
  • 1 cup of borax
  • Essential oil of your choice

Instructions

  • Put all of the ingredients together in a big mason jar and shake to make sure it is mixed up really well. I used about 10 drops of oil per jar.
  • The next step is just to sprinkle it over the area you want to clean and leave it on for an hour. I try to do this while the kids and the dog are outside. You can also take a cloth and rub it in a bit, but I didn’t. I just let it do its thing.
  • After about an hour, everything gets vacuumed up. Enjoy the fresh carpet!

I just let this mix sit on the carpet for as long as possible then I vacuum it up. I actually do this about once a week when I vacuum to keep the carpet fresh.
