Trying to find something special to do for your birthday. Look no further! Find out Why You Should Celebrate Your Birthday at Universal Studios!
Birthdays are a big deal, and they should be celebrated! This year we surprised my son with a trip to Universal Studios Florida for his 13th birthday? I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate, could you? If you are trying to decide what to do for your birthday or someone special’s birthday, check out these reasons why you should celebrate your birthday at Universal Studios.
Birthday at Universal Studios
Birthday Button
First things first, you want to let everyone know it is your birthday at Universal Studios. On your way into the park stop by Guest Relations at the front gate to get your official birthday button. You can also pick one up at your hotel if you are staying on property. They are pretty snazzy!
PS: You can get a button at any time. It doesn’t have to be on the EXACT day of your birthday. They also offer buttons for other occasions and special celebrations too!
What Does the Birthday Button Do?
The birthday button will be marked with your name and let the park staff know it is your birthday. When we first walked into the park, the ticketing staff stopped and announced loudly it was my son’s birthday, and everyone sang. This mama’s heart skipped a beat to see the big smile on his face. All-day long as we made our way through the park all the staff wished him a happy birthday. It helped make his day special!
The Biggest Secret
Now that you are wearing that birthday button proudly march yourself down to Diagon Alley in the heart of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and pay yourself a visit to Ollivanders Wand Shop. It is not 100% guaranteed, but Ollivander has been known to take notice of muggles & wizards with a Birthday Button and choose them for a wand ceremony. It worked for us, and my son was over the moon that his wand chose him at Ollivander’s.
Be prepared for singing
On our way to get on the Men In Black ride the ride, attendant stopped and announced over the loudspeaker that it was Mason’s Birthday. Everyone cheered, clapped and sang. I know some people might not like all of the attention, but it makes you feel special on your birthday to have everyone in such a fun place notice you.
Hotel Surprise
Mention it is your birthday when staying on-site. Not only can you get your birthday button at check-in (saves waiting at guest services), at the Royal Pacific, we got a birthday card with a free drink coupon.
When we stayed at the Hard Rock my daughter received a special Hard Rock Birthday Pin, Coupon for Ice Cream, and a piece of birthday cake waiting in our room! Some have mentioned getting balloons in their room. It is worth telling them it is for a birthday when you reserve your room.
Rumors
I am calling these rumors because we did not experience these first hand, but I have heard of them happening from time to time, so I thought they were worth mentioning. Some other things we have heard that can happen to those wearing the Birthday Button are getting a free specialty drink, or getting priority admission to an attraction.
Why you should celebrate your birthday at Universal Studios should be clear. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a special day than at Universal Studios. We haven’t stopped talking about it or smiling. My son’s birthday at Universal Studios was a magical day, even for us muggles.

I’m taking my son to universal for his 11th birthday ( a very special birthday in the wizardring world 😉). We scheduled the trip for about 10 days after his actual birthday due to holiday crowds. Will they still allow him to celebrate “officially “?
