How to Make Homemade Febreze
This is one of those things that you can make yourself for pennies and never knew it! I am guilty of spending full price for a bottle of fabric odor remover. I have kids, I have a dog, and that means…I have odors. I can’t help it. They are messy little creatures. But they are so cute!
How am I supposed to make him find another nap spot?
Or tell her she has to eat her pretzels away from Sesame Street?
So instead I gathered these ingredients.
Homemade Febreze
- Large Spray Bottle 32oz or reuse an old spray bottle
- 4 TBSP Baking Soda
- 1/4 Cup Fabric Softener (your favorite smell)
- Hot water to fill the rest of the bottle.
Shake or stir all of these together in the bottle and voila!
If you use a smaller bottle you will of course want to adjust the ingredients down. I have already had many questions about this staining. I haven’t had any problems with staining, because the fabric softener is so watered down in this mix. If you are concerned you could use less fabric softener in your febreze mix.
That is it! Seriously! It is that easy. This works so well, that I am shocked. We have used it for awhile now! You can spray the couch, curtains, carpets, beds, any fabric surface in the house and it smells so good. And it lasts. I sprayed the kids rooms yesterday morning as a test to see just how long it lasts. I walked in there this morning and I could still smell the fresh fabric softener scent. LOVE IT!
Question…. Does it tend to stain? I heard that fabric softner can stain when not properly diluted or rinsed thoroughly…. Is this true?
I use a large bottle for the amount of fabric softener in my recipe. It is a 36 oz bottle. I have never had a problem with staining. If you are concerned you can just use less fabric softener in the mix. 😉
I said I would do this today and I went to walmart spent almost two hours there and still forgot the baking soda.
I have done this, I used a little less baking soda and I love it. Works like a charm!!
You could also use an essential oil instead of the fabric
softener 🙂
Did it! Works like a charm! THANKS YOU!
I just whipped up a batch of this and am currently sitting in a flowery haze and loving it. I used dollar store fabric softener which drove the price to about $.06 per bottle! Got to love that!
Thanks!
Eric
I love it. I made some for other friends. They too really enjoy this less expensive way to keep a wonderful smell in our homes…..
Can you use this on fabrics in cars as well?
Yes you can
