Bread machines are that one kitchen appliance that everyone has but no one uses as often as they should. They really do make baking your own bread so easy anyone can do it. Supplies
This recipe calls for simple ingredients that you should have on hand.
- milk
- water
- vegetable oil
- salt
- bread flour
- instant potato flakes
- sugar
- yeast
Instructions
This recipe is so simple when made in a bread machine. Place the ingredients into the bread machine in the order listed or according to the manufacturer’s directions. Each machine may be slightly different, so check your instruction booklet.
Set to the basic or white bread setting and adjust the crust to the lightest setting. Start your machine.
Note: During the first kneading cycle, check the bread to make sure it is moist enough to knead. If not, add 1 tablespoon of water.
When the bread is done, carefully remove the bread pan and cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Remove the bread from the pan and continue cooling on a wire rack.
Vegan
This recipe can be made vegan by substituting your favorite dairy free milk in place of the milk. I suggest using canned coconut milk, but I have also had luck with almond and oat milk.
Storage
Store any uneaten bread in an airtight container for 3 days at room temperature, or 5 days in the fridge. Homemade bread lacks the preservatives that store bought bread does so I can mold faster.
You can also freeze these bread for later use.

- ¾ cup milk heated to 110 degrees
- ½ cup water heated to 110 degrees
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or your choice of oil
- 1 ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 cups bread flour
- ½ cup instant potato flakes
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
