Does your Keurig 2.0 need descaling? Is it brewing slowly, or not acting right? Learn How to Clean Your Keurig 2.0 in a few easy steps.

How to Clean Your Keurig 2.0

Here we go again.  So I got my Keurig 2.0 in February 2015. I told you guys all about it and what I thought of it compared to my Keurig B145. Right now, I have my Keurig 2.0 in my office, and this morning I rolled over for a fresh cup of coffee. When I popped in the k-cup, and it didn't sound right. It started brewing slow, then it made too much coffee and overflowed my cup. ~sigh~ I knew it was time, so I thought I would show you How to Clean Your Keurig 2.0.

Now I told you How to Clean Your Keurig before when my old brewer wouldn't make a full cup anymore.  This process is similar, but there are some changes you need to know about before you begin.

How to Clean Your Keurig 2.0

    Keurig 2.0 disassembly

First, you are going to open your Keurig 2.0 and look for this piece where you put the k-cup. It pops out easily for you to clean. Take it to the sink and wash it well with warm soapy water. Be super careful because there are sharp needles inside.

    Keurig 2.0 disassembly

Once you remove that there is yet another tray inside that is removable. Go ahead and pull it out and wash it as well.

    Keurig 2.0 descaling

Then you can wipe out the inside with a clean cloth. Again be careful because there are sharp parts on this machine. Now that the machine is apart and you have a wet towel go ahead and wipe off the outside of the coffee machine to make sure it is clean.

    Keurig 2.0 and Vinegar

Reassemble your Keurig. Now you are going to put 1 cup of white vinegar in your water reservoir, and fill the rest of the way with water. Press the button and run the hot water cycle as many times as you can with no k-cup in the machine until the reservoir is empty. Using your k-carafe is best for this step.

Of course, it will not drain completely, so dump out the rest of the vinegar water. Fill with fresh water, and then run some more until you have run a full reservoir of clean water through the machine. You want to do this to make sure there is no vinegar left inside. Just be warned vinegar coffee does not taste so good; it is a fact.

Don't forget to wipe off the removable drip tray while you are cleaning.

    Keurig 2.0 and Kcups

Once complete your Keurig 2.0 is spic & span. I popped a k-cup in, and it worked perfectly. A perfect big mug of coffee. Just a standard 10 oz cup of joy, also known as Folgers Vanilla Biscotti Coffee this morning. 😉

These steps can vary depending on the model of Keurig 2.0 Coffee Makers. If you have a K300, k550, k350, k400, k450, k500 Keurig brewers these steps should be similar.

How often to clean Keurig 2.0

You will want to clean your Keurig 2.0 monthly or bi-monthly if you use it regularly to keep it in good working order.

I hope this tutorial on How to Clean Your Keurig 2.0 helps it get back up and running like a brand new machine!

    Filter

You can purchase a water filter for your Keurig 2.0 which will help extend the use between cleaning. These can help prevent mineral deposits and chlorine from the coffee.

    Customer Service

When all else fails reach out to Keurig customer service. I have found them to be quite responsive. Depending on the warranty they have been known to issue refunds or replacements if there is a problem with the machine.

Thank you!!! Discovered lots of yuck from hot chocolate in our machine. Thank goodness we didn’t use tap water otherwise it would have been so hard to clean ‘cause our water is very hard.

It wasn’t mentioned, but it’s a good idea to leave the filter out when you’re doing the vinegar cycles, and then reassemble with the filter afterward. Otherwise, your filter will hold the vinegar taste.

Thank you for these easy instructions. I've had my 2.0 for several years now and never knew that I could removed the k-cup holder or the tray underneath. I don't even need to tell you how dirty they were! Sparkling clean now!

Thanks for taking time to post this. We just followed your directions to clean our Keurig. Easy as could be. We have been cleaning pool filters, washing machine filter, dishwasher filter, coffee pot filter and getting ready to have osmosis filters changed out. Everything has filters these days. Yikes.
