Stop wasting your money at the drug store. Make your own moisturized lip care with this all natural Homemade Lip Balm Recipe. Simple and nourishing.
There are so many products that we have normalized purchasing from the drug store or other retailers that are so easy to make at home, and probably better for us too. A ton of beauty products can be made at home with easy recipes, like this Homemade Lip Balm Recipe. Once you have the ratios perfected out it can be adjusted to your personal preferences.
What you will Need
- Solidifying Fat (Pastured Lard, Tallow, Coconut Oil)
- Beeswax pellets
- Flavoring or Essential oil of choice
- Honey (Optional)
- Small jar or container to hold (Lip Balm Containers)
Fat Options
The way this lip balm moisturizes your lips is from a fat source. I love using pastured lard or tallow. Pastured lard is the second highest food source in vitamin D, after cod liver oil. It is also a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, selenium, and zinc. If you can’t find a good source for Lard or Tallow you can also use Coconut oil to make this amazing lip balm.
Flavoring
I love keeping things all natural. You can use your favorite Essential oil to scent/flavor your lip balm. Peppermint Essential Oil and even Orange Essential Oil are great choices. This time I did something a little different for my girls. We bought Strawberry Flavoring from Amazon. They sell other food flavors as well. OMG! This is better than any strawberry lip balm from the store. With much higher quality ingredients. I highly recommend.
Containers
This recipe creates more of a lip balm, or lip gloss and less of a chapstick. (If you are looking for a chapstick recipe try this Peppermint Lip Balm Recipe. You are going to want a small jar container and not a twist up stick. The size is dependent on your preference. We purchased our lip balm jars from Amazon.
Honey or Not
I love Honey! Honey is a natural sweetener and antimicrobial. Honey’s natural humectant properties make it an effective moisturizer. The enzyme activity in honey enables it to penetrate deeply into the skin and bring hydration to the underlying layers. This results in plumper, softer skin with a natural radiant glow. It is a great addition to this lip balm because it adds sweetness and helps it penetrate your lips for maximum moisturizing potential.
Kid Safe
I love this lip balm for kids. There are no toxic chemicals, and they can enjoy it without worry. This is also a great craft to make during a party or sleepover. It is quick, easy, and the kids love it!
