We were making slime at my house before slime was cool. It is such a fun hands-on science project for kids. I have even made my kids research why mixing the ingredients results in slime. Seriously, homeschool problems. Check out how to make slime without borax and see just how easy it is.
What You Need
The key ingredient to making slime without borax is liquid starch. You can pick this up at any grocery store where you would find the laundry detergent.
You will also need
- School Glue
- Food Coloring
- Water
- Measuring Cup
- Spoon
Tips
A fun tip is to use popsicle sticks to stir the glue and slime. This makes clean up so much easier.
Make more than one color slime and mix them together for a fun mermaid or galaxy slime look.
Get Creative
My kids have gotten to where they love to make this on their own. They are old enough to handle it themselves. It is fun to make for birthday parties or just because! Have fun with it. Get creative with colors, add-ins, and more.
Storage
Store your slime in an airtight container so you can enjoy it again later. This is also fun to make big batches and break it up into smaller chunks for party favors, etc.

Homemade Slime without Borax
Equipment
- Spoon
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Washable Clear Glue or White Glue
- 1/2 Cup Liquid Starch
- 1/2 Cup Water
- food coloring confetti, glitter {optional}
Instructions
- In one bowl mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of glue. Stir the glue and water together well!
- Now’s the time to add color, glitter, or confetti! Remember when you add color to white glue, the color will be lighter. Use clear glue for jewel toned colors!
- Pour in 1/2 cup of liquid starch. You will see the slime immediately start to form. The slime starts to come together instantly! Switch to mixing with hands for a few minutes until you feel the majority of the liquid incorporated into the slime.
- Put in a clean, dry container or on a plate. Slime can be played with right away but it’s consistency changes a bit over the next 30 mins to a smoother looking substance as opposed to the stringier slime you may originally see.
- Store in an airtight container when you are finished playing with it.
