Patriotic Duct Tape Pinwheels
I am all about fun Summer Crafts that the kids can help me with. These Patriotic Pinwheels were crazy easy to make. I don’t know that I have ever tried to make a pinwheel before. But something made me give it a whirl.
You will need….
- Patriotic Duct Tape (I found this fun duct tape at the Dollar Store!)
- Card Stock
- Paper Straw
- Brass Fastener
Fold your card stock like pictured above. We are just trying to make a perfect square.
Cut the extra strip off leaving behind a perfect square when unfolded.
Start covering the card stock with the duct tape. Really you can do a pattern if you choose. I chose to do solid on each side.
I did each side in a different pattern. This looks awesome when you pinwheel it.
Now for the magic. (Sorry for the blurry pic, I had helpers. 😉 ) You are going to cut on the diagonal about 3/4 of the way up. So in the end you will end up with 4 separate cuts on your square.
It will allow you to fold in the corners like this! Now you are going to want to use a single hole punch or scissors. Punch a hole in the center of your square.
Then, a total of 4 more holes, on each corner you will be pulling into the center to form the pinwheel. Tip. If you grab the right corner and pull it in. You will be pulling in all of the right corners to form the pinwheel.
Put your brass fastener through the holes to hold your pinwheel together.
Now once the brass fastener is through the pinwheel the final touch is to cut a small hole in the straw and push it through the straw. Bend the ends out to secure it to the straw. Do not over tighten or your pinwheel won’t spin.
Look how cute it turned out!
My kids are in love with them! I have to admit, I am too! What a fun centerpiece for a 4th of July BBQ!
