A spooky idea for Halloween that is simple and delicious! The kids are going to love these Shrunken Head Potatoes!
Halloween treats don’t have to be all sugary and sweet. They can be spooky and savory too! Like these amazing and fun Shrunken Head Potatoes. They are simple roasted potatoes with faces carved into them for that scary halloween flare! Everyone will get kick out of this delicious side dish!
My kids even said these would be fun for a Harry Potter Party. They reminded them of the shrunken head on the Night Bus. I hadn’t thought about that, but it would be fun!

How to make
Pick up some fresh potatoes at the store. You are looking for a medium sized potato. Everyone has their favorite types. I really have not found one that works better than another, so pick your favorite.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with foil.
Carefully cut a face in each potato using a paring knife. These don’t have to be fancy; just eyes, nose, and mouth. They are shrunken heads after all.
Place the potatoes on a baking tray, drizzle with the oil and toss to coat. Make sure all the faces are facing upwards, then roast for 40-45 mins until golden and crispy. May take more or less time depending on the size of the potatoes.
Serve warm with dipping sauce and enjoy!
Allergy Friendly
Since these are simple roasted potatoes they are very allergen friendly (as long as you aren’t allergic to potatoes).
Dipping Sauce
This is where your creativity can shine! These are shrunken heads after all. Ketchup adds a spooky flair because of its color and texture. Some other fun dips are things like guacamole (HELLO GREEN), or even a delicious fry sauce (Mayo/ketchup swirl).
Storage
These are best eaten the day they are made. However you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat as you would a baked potato.
