Tide You Over Tuesday: Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix

ranch 017

I was blown away by the response after I posted the Italian Dressing Mix Recipe last week.  You guys loved it and I had a ton of requests for a Ranch Dressing Mix Recipe.   I just so happen to have one for you guys that I use all of the time!

I love this because it is truly versatile!  Not only can you make your own ranch, you can make your own dip with it.  This is made in huge batches in a jar in my kitchen, because my daughter is allergic to milk and I refuse to pay $4-$5 for a bottle of dairy free ranch dressing.  This makes the best tasting dairy free ranch dressing and dip.  This is also great for those of you that are Vegan, and can’t have dairy for that reason.

Thanks for both recipes. The only way to get my son to eat veggies is to offer them with Ranch. I”ve been looking for a good homemade alternative to the store-bought versions & I know that any recipe from you will be great!

How long will this keep in the refrigerator once the mayo and buttermilk is added?

Kathy,

That is a great question. We go through it pretty fast with 3 kids in the house. I think the longest it has ever been in the fridge was about a week and it was still good. ;) I am sure it would last about 2 weeks without a problem. Depending on the code date on the milk.

Thank you so much for this!! I finally broke down and bought some packets of Ranch dressing mix for a few recipes I’ve been wanting to try out and it hurt my heart to buy them without a coupon! LOL Now I’ve just got to pick up some dill and I’m all set to have a batch of ranch whenever I want it. :D

Should the dill be dried or fresh … or does it matter?

Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts January 24, 2012 at 2:22 pm

cristy I used dry. ;) If you use fresh you would need to use a little more

Thanks. Is it dill seed or called dried dill? I have dill seed from making dill pickles…

It is dried dill…Looks like little green stems.

Thanks for including the nondairy options. There are several of us in my house that like to avoid lactose.

Can you use light mayo to make the dressing?

what kind of non-dairy milk do you typically use? soy? almond? rice?

Reply

Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts January 25, 2012 at 10:52 am

I usually use original almond milk when I make it sierra. It is good with soy too. That is just what we keep in the fridge. ;)

You say you make this up in big batches (I’m assuming you mean the dry mix?) – how much of the mix do you use for a batch of dressing?

Reply

Amanda @ A Few Short Cuts February 28, 2012 at 1:52 am

3 1/2 tsp. it is on the bottom of the recipe when you print it. :)
