Farmhouse Meets British Bookstore – Girls Room Makeover
A fun room transformation. See how we turned an empty space into Farmhouse Meets British Bookstore in this Girls Room Makeover!
So I have shared with you many of the projects that made up the Girl’s new bedroom but I haven’t mentioned EVERYTHING! We are huge Harry Potter fanatics around here but my daughter’s didn’t want a childish bedroom. Our design theme was Farmhouse Meets British Bookstore. I can’t wait to share all the bits of the Girls Room Makeover!
A bit of a re-cap. Their room looked like this when we first moved in. In all of it’s seafoam glory! (You can see our entire 1970’s ranch Fixer Upper here)
Lighting
The first step to the girls room makeover was the lighting. Nothing screams girly as much as a Chandelier. We have lower ceilings so we didn’t want anything too big. I found this smaller Chandelier on Amazon, and purchase the ceiling medallion to really set it off. The ceiling medallion is made out of foam so it is super light weight. I actually installed the light myself. It was very simple.
The two windows let a lot of light into this space. I also attached two Ikea Ranarp Lamps to their Headboards. This is perfect if they want to read at night.
Windows
I am going to call this the keepin’ it real shot in the post. Don’t mind the mess, but we live here. Sometimes a little messier than others. LOL But this was the best picture I had of the windows and curtains. I purchase these Charcoal Linen Curtains at Target. I also got these Industrial Pipe Style Curtain Rods at Target too! I love them so much I actually bought these rods for every window in my house. NO JOKE!
Paint
Without a doubt the thing that transformed this room more than anything was the paint! When getting ready for the Girls room makeover I chose Valspar Signature Eggshell Paint in Comet Dust. I bought this from Lowes. I went with Valspar Signature because this paint because it was low VOC which basically is a fancy way of saying my house did not smell like paint when I was done. I found that I got great coverage but because I was covering such a bright blue I did need 2 coats in spots.
I do plan on eventually adding some crown molding. It is just one of those projects I haven’t gotten around to yet.
Furniture
I showed you guys how I made these adorable Farmhouse Headboards for under $25 each! NO JOKE! You really don’t need to be handy either. They are so easy to make!
We also purchased new Mattresses and Bedframes from Amazon. The bed frames are Zinus Twin SmartBases and the mattresses are Zinus Twin Memory Foam Mattresses. I made the switch for my own bed last year, and switched the kids this year. Not only are they affordable they are incredibly comfortable! I can’t brag about them enough.
I also transformed an IKEA Dresser into this Faux Card Catalog Dresser. Again, another super simple project that was really affordable!
The only other real furniture in the room is a Large Ikea Kallax that we are using for a bookshelf wall, and we hung their TV on the wall above it.
Bedding
Ahh, so this was one of my favorite parts of the girls room makeover. I actually found bedding that I loved and it was way out of my budget. SHOCKER! So I started combing the internet. Ikea actually had these Ingabritta Knitted Throws in a couple colors.
So I got a pink and a blue. Plus, these Indira Bedspreads are PERFECTION! They have this white waffle weave and they are light weight which is a plus for Florida. I will probably add some additional throw blankets or a duvet for the winter, but for now these are perfect! I just purchased some white cotton sheet sets for the bed sheets themselves.
PS: We have our wonderful models Coal and Pudge. Coal came with the house, we just didn’t know it. He has adjusted to life inside and over the last few months has put on a few pounds too. I can’t believe how tiny he looks in this picture.
Accessories
Accessories are always so much fun. They really tie in a space. We found this Paddington Station two sided clock at Hobby Lobby. It is the piece that started this journey! The girls fell in love with it, and we knew then just what we had to do.
I wish I would have taken a bigger picture but this rug adds just the right amount of color pop to the room. I ordered this Red Bohemian 5×7 Rug from amazon. I don’t know how to describe it other than it adds a tapestry like busyness that I felt like the room needed to pull of that British Bookstore vibe.
Their wall art are pictures we took while at Universal Studios. I had them printed at Walgreens (always look for a coupon code.) Then I bought these Ribba Frames from Ikea. At only $10 each for the frames this was affordable custom wall art that they love! ( You an read more about their wall art here )
It would not be a bookstore without a book store sign! Make your own custom farmhouse signs with this quick and easy tutorial!
Last but not least, we found these metal wall baskets on clearance at Hobby Lobby. Talk about a score. We got them for only $7. These are actually pretty similar.
