Instant Pot Apple Butter Recipe

Instant Pot Apple Butter

When the fall rolls around, there few things that are as wonderful as a crisp morning with fresh biscuits and apple butter. Apple butter is such a delicious spread that gets your taste buds dancing with the sweetness of the apples and the spice of the cinnamon. This Instant Pot Apple Butter makes is so easy to make your own in just a few minutes, and it is a perfect to way to use up that fall apple harvest.

Apple Butter is a misnomer. There is actually no butter at all in apple butter. It is a spread like a jam made from apples, sugar, spices, and a little lemon juice. The lemon juice acts as the acidic ingredient to help it get that jam consistency while cooking. To me, apple butter just tastes like fall! It has all the flavors that remind you of everything good about this season.

What Size Instant Pot?

Instant Pots are awesome and they come in all sizes with tons of settings and features that can be confusing. For this recipe you want to have at least a 4 or 5 quart Instant Pot for best results. No fancy features necessary.

What type of Apples for Apple Butter?

Apples come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and firmness. They are all delicious, but some are better for certain jobs than others. Soft, sweet apples are best for apple butter. This includes

  • Braeburn
  • Cortland
  • Fuji
  • Gravenstein
  • Grimes Golden
  • Jonamac
  • Ida Red
  • Liberty
  • McIntosh

Other types of apples will work but may not give you the best results. Keep that in mind when selecting your apples.

How to Store Instant Pot Apple Butter

Apple butter, especially homemade, is so delicious it never seems to last long. Put your Instant Pot Apple Butter into a mason jar and store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If you want, you can even can your apple butter. Look up “Hot Water Bath Canning Method” it is very easy, and does not take long to can your apple butter for later. It even make fantastic gifts.

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in Instant Pot and toss together.
  • Cover with the lid and set the valve to sealing. Cook on “pressure cook” or “manual” for 8 minutes. Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes before a quick release.
  • Remove lid and use an immersion blender to puree the apples. OR, carefully place apples in a blender and blend until pureed.
  • Serve finished apple butter with biscuits or store in a mason jar in the fridge until ready to enjoy.

You can can this apple butter for storage.  Check out Ball's website for a Hot water bath canning method that is perfect for longer storage.
